Stump grinding: what belongs in your quote?
A tree can be removed while its stump and roots remain. Make the finish you want part of the original scope.
Grinding and excavation are different
Ask whether the contractor plans to grind the stump or excavate it. Specify the proposed depth and whether exposed surface roots are included. The word removal alone is not enough to establish the finish.
Access for a grinder may differ from access needed to remove branches. Describe gate widths, steps and any surface you need protected; let the contractor decide equipment suitability.
Check the final condition of the ground
Clarify who removes chips, adds soil and restores grass. If you intend to build or replant in the spot, discuss that use before choosing a method. The calculator adds only an illustrative CAD $150–500 grinding allowance; it does not price excavation or site restoration.
Locate utilities before ground work
Ask the provider to arrange the applicable utility-location process before stump work. Do not assume a shallow grind cannot contact buried infrastructure. Utility requirements and safe methods must be determined by qualified people for the site.
