Tree removal permits: a planning checklist
A price estimate is not permission to cut a tree. Confirm the rules for the actual property.
Identify the authority and the owner
Confirm whether the tree is on your land, a boundary, public land or land governed by another authority. A nearby city page does not determine who controls the property. Census areas are statistical geography, not a legal decision about a tree.
Ask the responsible authority about protected species or sizes, conservation areas, development conditions and required reports. Rules may change; use the current official application guidance.
Separate fees from service costs
Ask whether the quote includes application preparation, the government fee, an arborist report and any replacement planting. These are distinct costs. The calculator has a manual field for an actual known amount and does not manufacture a fee for every city.
Do not assume an emergency exemption
A dead or damaged tree may still involve an exception-confirmation process. If there is immediate danger, keep clear and contact qualified responders. Otherwise confirm the applicable permission before starting work. Save any written approval with your quote.
